Apparatus
The Woodlands Fire Department Fleet
The Woodlands Fire Department operates a rather
extensive fleet of emergency vehicles, each designed for a very
specific purpose.
The Woodlands Fire
Department operates five manned fire engines, three 100’
aerial truck/quints, and one Chevy Suburban
Battalion Chief’s command vehicle. In addition, we
have several pieces of equipment in reserve that we
can respond with our front-line vehicles. These
include
a Hazardous Materials response truck, a Booster truck for
off-road firefighting applications, a rescue truck
for specialized heavy rescue and SCBA bottle refill,
a dive/rescue boat, and a trench rescue trailer.
Because of manpower limitations, we must drop our
normal fourth firefighter from a fire
engine to drive the auxiliary equipment, sometimes
leaving only three firefighters on our engines. Our
engines carry 500 gallons of water inside them, and
can pump from 1250 gallons of water per minute.
Besides these front-line trucks, we have two reserve
fire engines, and several staff vehicles.

| Apparatus facts:
A new engine costs about $450,000, depending on options and
requirements. This cost does not account for the loose
equipment that is carried on board. A new ladder truck
costs upwards of $1,000,000 |

Manufacturers:
There are a few major fire apparatus manufacturers and a
multitude of smaller ones in the U.S. TWFD has a fleet of
trucks primarily built by
Pierce Manufacturing
of Appleton, WI. However, TWFD also has apparatus
built by Seagrave
and Ferrara. |
